Finished in it's original factory 'Alamo Beige' color paint with a 'Singapore Gold' hardtop with it's original factory 'Light Saddle' completely original interior and original hubcaps. Purchased from a Michigan car collector some 15 years ago by Los Angeles television producer and always garage kept and covered! The floor boards, trunk and all the typical rust-prone areas are completely solid and rust-free and the car has had no major accidents of any kind - obviously an always garaged and cherished car since new! The car looks extremely impressive in it's original factory 'Alamo Beige' color paint with a 'Singapore Gold' hardtop and the 'Light Saddle' interior which is in exceptional and completely original condition with only very minor imperfections noticeable upon close inspection; in particular there is a small nick in the fabric of the driver's door armrest! The car has all it's original logos and came factory equipped with a two-speed automatic transmission with a tachometer, pushbutton radio and manual antenna, windshield washer and dual speed wipers, Deluxe Wheel Discs, back-up lamps, soft-ray glass, HD radiator, metallic brake linings, standard axle and white wall tires. The brightwork design on the dashboard, the dashboard itself, the headliner, the carpets and all the seats are in absolutely exceptional condition with virtually no signs of wear and tear! All the chromework is also in very good condition and the original spare wheel with it's jack is in the trunk. The original matching 3 carburettor Tri-Power 389/348HP (77J code) engine is extremely strong and powerful and this particular car drives absolutely magnificently - must be driven to be believed - drives straight as an arrow with no strange road wobbles, shakes or rattles - a truly remarkable daily driver that will give any modern day sports car a run for it's money! The transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears and the temperature always remains cool! Although obviously not a concourse example, this remains a very rare and highly desirable and collectible unabused example of one of the outstanding GM designs of the sixties, the GTO option package for the Tempest created a new type of vehicle by shoehorning a big block engine into a medium sized car - the muscle car, starting a trend lasting almost ten years before the fuel crisis of 1973! With it's lightweight body and 348 horses under the hood, the 1964 GTO was unlike any other car at the time. The 389 cubic inch V8 is the centerpiece of the GTO package and with the Tri-Power carburetion of three two barrel carburetors it boasted 348 bhp. All first generation GTO's have a special place in collector's hearts as the first of the muscle car species and enjoy milestone status, especially the 1964 model which many consider the purest of the breed, if not the all time fastest! Tri-Power equipped first year coupes seem to have a special aura among enthusiasts too. It was amazing how much torque the GTO had for an essentially stock six-passenger car and it became a legend in it's own time. The GTO could accelerate from 0-60 in under 7 seconds - a quite remarkable feat in it's day and even today! The biggest advantage was it's wight, some 300lbs lighter than most later muscle cars, made this beast very quick off the line. In summary, this is one great daily driver, turn-key ready to enjoy today or indeed the perfect candidate for the enthusiast to easily completely restore of a completely stock and original GTO.
